Hydraulic Control Valves
Control valves can be of either single- or multi-stage construction. Bernoulli forces limit the flow capacity of single stage valves to around 10 to 15 litres/min, most higher flow valves arc of two-stage construction, although three-stage valves are sometimes used for applications requiring very high now rates. Some pilot stages of two-stage valves can also be
employed as low flow control valves in their own right. The pilot stage of the control valve shown in Fig.1 is an example of this. Most two-stage control valves incorporate some sort of internal feedback loop, which can take one of several forms. The most common are:
(I) Mechanical position feedback (stem servo).
(2) Electrical position feedback.
(3) Force feedback.
(4) Flow feedback.
